FIREFLIES – THE GAME BRINGS VOXEL, ADVENTURE, PUZZLE AND A DEEPNARRATIVE INTO YOUR PC

3/23/2020

The novel PC game from Smart Studios has already won the hearts of the critics, and will voxel up your day.

São Paulo, March 23, 2020 – Fireflies, the new game from Smart Studios, based in Santo André, Brazil, is the living proof of the globalization of the game industry. The groundbreaking mix of voxel art, an breathtaking adventure puzzle design and a touching story that ring bells to the current state of our society is already gathering fans from all over, from GameJolt moderators to Steam curators, and, of course, players.

The story can’t be more contemporary. One child, victim of abuse and domestic violence, locks itself into its
own mind, and everywhere it looks, a nightmarish scenario, full of challenges, horrible creatures and bosses
coherent with previous life tragedies gains the help of three powerful allies: a caring psychologist (don’t
forget to get in touch to get the exclusive prologue HQ), the will force of the player and of course, fireflies
that lead the way out of this mind blockage. Why are the fireflies helping? That’s for you to find out.

The game has been in production for the last two years by Smart Studio, led by Victor Romão, Lead Artist and the visionary that decided to use voxel art back in 2017: “We wanted to do something different when
choosing voxel in an unprecedented level of detail and size, never seen in games before. This choice is also
interspersed with what we are trying to communicate, because everything in life is built, like small pieces
that fit together forming worlds around us. Some of them can be people, others are objects or animals that
would always help us on our journey, if we allow them”.

The studio CEO and main investor, Sérgio Filho, tells us why he is so excited about Fireflies: “Our studio was
initially conceived as an incubator for students, but due to the success of the projects and talent of our
professionals we started to create commercial games. I'm very hopeful that everyone enjoys playing Fireflies as much as we have making it.”

Fireflies is available right now for PCs on Steam http://bit.ly/Fireflies-Steam, GameJolt http://bit.ly/Fireflies-

49 Studios Offer New, Exciting Games, Talent, and Offerings

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL (March 18, 2020) — 49 game development and production studios,  part of the Brazil Games Export program, were set to showcase their incredible talent during the 2020 Game Developers Conference (GDC) and at Game Connection America (GCA). In light of the coronavirus-related cancellation of those events, the Brazil Games Companies Association would like to share some of the exciting projects in production for 2020 and beyond.

More than 140 companies, which comprise a major part of the Brazilian games industry, work in partnership with Brazil Games, the Brazilian Games Export Program, which is carried out by Abragames (Brazilian Games Companies Association) in partnership with Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. Brazil is currently the 13th largest gaming market in the world and continues to flourish. With a 13.5 per cent annual growth rate, Brazil accounts for USD $1.6 billion in videogame-related revenue, second in Latin America only to Mexico.

Brazil-based developers and creative studios contribute to some of the biggest global video games while also steadily increasing the number of critically acclaimed original entertainment franchises made in Brazil. This year alone, five Brazilian studios attended KidScreen Summit 2020 in Miami, four studios attended PAX East 2020 in Boston and were selected to be part of the prestigious Indie Megabooth, and 49 studios planned to attend GDC 2020 in San Francisco this week.

During GDC, twelve studios — with projects ranging from critically acclaimed action RPGs, multiplayer titles, mobile, and educational games, to genre-blending offerings and VR and AR games — were to participate at GDC@Play. These include Broders Interactive, Cafundo Creative Studio, INSANE,  GamePlan, Mad Mimic, Oktagon Games, Petit Fabrik, Rockgames, Rogue Snail, Skullfish Studios, Electric Monkeys, and VRMonkey. Other notable studios that were set to attend include, Kokku, Pipa Studio, Tapps Games, Aquiris, Rockhead Studios. In addition, three Brazilian studios were nominated for the Game Connection America 2020 Indie Development Awards: Dandy Ace from Mad Mimic Studio, Sky Racket from Double Dash Studios, and Sword Legacy from Firecast Studio.

“We are extremely proud of the creative success of our studios and their accomplishments,” said Eliana Russi Manager of Brazil Games. “While we are unable to share our achievements and upcoming projects at this year’s Game Developers Conference, we are happy to provide opportunities to connect the incredible talent from Brazil with the world.”

“The talent and innovation that Brazil brings to the games industry is immense, and we look forward to sharing it with the world,” said Mariana Gomes, Apex-Brasil Project Manager. “We have much to show off on behalf of Brazil and look forward to continuing to present our studios, talent, and independent games to industry professionals and players alike.”

More information about all 49 studios that were set to attend GDC can be found in the “Brazil Games at GDC” catalog (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xnYef2fovDDYbbKxq-T1FLa648GpXRms/view)
